CONCERTMASTER

This is a multi-stage competition for the combined salaried position of Concertmaster with Symphony New Brunswick Inc [SNB] and Principal Violin of the Saint John String Quartet [SJSQ]. This audition is open only to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Candidates may be required to show proof of Canadian citizenship or eligibility to work in Canada Musicians employed by SNB are members of the New Brunswick Musicians' Association, Local 815 CFM.

  • Stage 2: invited candidates submit pre-recorded video audition by Monday, February 27th, 2023;

  • Stage 3: each short-listed candidate is engaged for a trial residency period;

  • Stage 4: selection of successful candidate and offer of probationary employment

    *Note: the application must indicate availability for each of the following trial residency periods:

1: March 14 - April 1 2023

2: April 1 - April 15 2023

3: April 16 - May 8 2023

4: May 12 - May 22 2023

5: May 23 - June 5 2023

 

SALARY & BENEFITS

Minimum Service Guarantee: 180 services

Annual Salary (current for 2022-23): $34,455.85

Extra Service Rate: $191.42

Season: mid-September to mid-June (limited services in January/February)

Benefits: 5% Pension Fund (budgeted), CPP, EI, cost-shared Group Health Insurance

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

SNB is a key provincial cultural asset experiencing significant growth under the leadership of its dynamic new Music Director, Mélanie Léonard. SJSQ is an acclaimed, award-winning ensemble with many recordings to its credit. Activities include recitals, library shows, school concerts, residencies, and other outreach engagements. SJSQ works independently outside of SNB's season as a touring ensemble, at festivals, and through recordings. SJSQ members write grants and program notes, develop school and library programs, and collaborate with other artists of all genres. The successful candidate will be familiar with string quartet repertoire, show enthusiasm for the community and be motivated to create opportunities for the quartet.
