invites applications for the following permanent salaried position:
PRINCIPAL VIOLA
This audition is open only to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Candidates may be required to show proof of Canadian citizenship or eligibility to work in Canada.
This is a salaried position based in Saint John, New Brunswick that combines appointments to the Saint John String Quartet [~ 65% of services] and the Principal Viola chair with Symphony New Brunswick [~35% of services].
Applicants are to submit a CV and video tape of the competition excerpts plus a solo Bach movement [applicant’s choice] by Tuesday, October 13. Applicants are also encouraged to provide links to on-line recordings of live performance within the past 12 months;
A short list of qualifying candidates, selected at the discretion of the audition panel, will be invited to participate in a paid trial residency that will include both orchestral and chamber ensemble performance during the 26/27 season;
SALARY & BENEFITS
Minimum Service Guarantee: 180 services
Annual Salary [current for 2026-27]: $36,000
Extra Service Rate: $200.00/service
Season: mid-September to mid-June [limited services in January/February]
Benefits: 5% Pension Fund, CPP, EI, cost-shared Group Health Insurance
Musicians employed by SNB are members of the New Brunswick Musicians' Association, Local 815 CFM.
